Just checking in.. had a few jewelry sales and now have a Vintage Perfume bottle listed, anxious to see how much it is valued at..
I see no one has stopped in Since August, where is every one going or spending their time.. Have not checked out Face Book to see if a jewelry site there.. I have a Set of Mexican Silver 3 pc set, I have listed but trying to find out more about, Contacted a big time auctioneer.. So that might be the deciding factor if I leave the listing as is or remove it..

Hoping to see other stop by one day, SURPRISE ME.. 🙄

Well its coming up on a month since I posted but I have been checking in.. Hoping to see some others.. I opened a new store on Ebay.. Shellys Boutique, its a trial run for 3 months, so plan on putting more jewelry on there.. I just wish there was someone I could ask questions of and get some answers to questions I have..
Like I have a Brooch with Swarovski Crystals, how much does it hurt the selling, if a stone or two are setting crooked in the hole/well they set in.. See I do not even know what they call that spot..
On the back of some stones, they have a foil backing, and some are solid like silver on the back, does that mean the piece is better quality? I have a pair of Green (looks like Swarovski) Triangle shaped stoned earrings that look like they have thin gold leaf on the back, does that tell you anything about the value, that it is better made or nothing at all?

Gee you would think I am going crazy here, talking to myself, just have hopes one day someone will stop in.. This will give them something to laugh about..

HI LIL, we keep missing each other, I was out of comission awhile as AOL worked on my computer and I lost all my favorite places including these cites..

I have some gorgeour jewelry I picked up the last couple of months I am just so afraid to list them for fear people will see more then I see and will not be pleased. Besides most of it I have no idea if sterling or gold or just toned.. and Stones are they paste, glass or quality stones? I surely wish they had a class on Jewelry so we could learn.. I wonder if anyone local would be interested enough to help me learn..

Good seeing you check in, Hope sales are up for you.. makes you wonder with the bad weather the US is having how many people are without access to homes let alone ebay.. Can you even imagine having your home burned or flooded.. Mother Nature is just plain mean this year.. Luckily we have none of those terrible hazards in Pa. We might get a bad snow storm/blizzard but our home is still standing.. (thus far)..

Just checking in.. Hope all are enjoying the summer.. We have had a long dry spell with grass turning brown, well running low, and praying for rain, we all need it, specially the Farmers crops..

HI LIL, Thank you for the Tips.. I know what your saying about the needle, and always cringed at the thought.. Its so hard to tell, what is real and what is not they have made the fakes so real looking.. Cannot always tell by the metal either..
I have a couple books on jewelry, but you know how one never tells or shows enough.. I sold one that I really got little use out of, it was mostly on the big jeweled pieces what they call it, Fruit Salad? Or something like that.. I picked up a couple pieces last week, a Tiffany Key, a Fossil Key, a Fossil Watch.. Picked up a Joan Rivers watch, but the band was broken.. No chance of repair..
How are your sales, making enough to pay the bills I hope.. I took a car load of misc. to auction yesterday, hoping to wind down and just have smaller items.. but I am drawn to the Gorgeous glass or Interesting Glass and Pottery too.. The Bubble wrap is what keeps me from selling more.. Bummer..

Never stick a pin into anything..causes damage esp. in amber..I have seen several nice pieces of amber with a hole (usually in the center).
I have done hours and hours of research & handling cameos & in my opinion that is the best way to gain experience of what is vintage, carved, museum quality, etc. There is actually no short cuts to learning except maybe a book from the library might help you where you can see what is valuable and what to look for. I do love to read & that has helped me..have over 50 books in my personal library on jewelry.
I do look at my competitors sites and how they display their items..this has given me many new ideas..always learning too.
Yes, there used to be a tight knit group of joolies..I came to think of a lot ot them as friends as you heard from them everyday with their daily comings and goings...it is so sad that it broke up.
I am on RL,TACE & ESTY...I do spend sometime during each and every day working on them.
Please don't needle jewelry any more and get yourself or loan from the library a few books on jewelry...I bet you'll be glad you did. Amazon does have used books.

LIL you have more experience then I have, with Cameos how can you tell they are hand carved or even real.. Do I have to stick a needle into the backs of every one? Thanks

OH LIL know what you mean about pictures not doing them justice.. I did buy some of those black forms to display jewelry on, helps a little, my friend loaned me her White Box but she never used it and I hate to be the first to take it out of the box so I haven't used it either, but it might help my pictures.. Rings seem to be the worse to photograph.. I just bought a ring sizer, not that I have that many rings, but its nice not to guess at the size..

Been wondering about a few oldies that use to check in on the old board, but cannot remember all their names, know some have passed.. I remember Becca, she use to have her Father living with her and still taking care of her Mom, I think her Father passed then it was just her Mother, Believe she lived in Calif.. not sure she ever joined this board..
Remember there was a gal from England, someone got upset with her about something not sure what but always got along with her.. My goodness that must be 15 yrs ago.. 🙂

When we get old all we have are memories.. LOL Off to bed, the only way I get a good nights sleep is if I read a little while..

HI LIL.. Yes Ebay has freebies sometimes but they still take their Final Value Fee.. I sold an item for my brother at 550.00 they took nearly 10% for FVF, and than I sold a 100.00 item for him and they took out 15.00.. So for sure besides Ebay and Pay Pal. they are gettting their monies worth from the sellers.
Yes thats what I figure I am making money and paying for it.. Just sold my De Jillo earrings for 41.00 this week, haven't checked yet to see what has been taken for fees.. No I do not have a store on ebay.. My Seller User ID is Shellyrae37

Shelly, sorry RL charges $20 a mth just for advertising, then they charge regardless 39cents to start off for each new item & maintenance each month something like .39 (I get a discount) for each item that is already in your shop & you need something like 80-100 items to be noticed.....like what I know is a fact ....you need to spend $ to get $. Doesn't ebay give free ads sometimes? Do you have a store & what is your ebay name by the way?

I wish I could get into Ruby Lane.. Have up a pair of earrings right now that would probably do better on RL.. Hate the fees Ebay charges.. 10% plus Pay pal takes about 5%.. Do you know what RL fees are? Would they amount to more then 15.00 a month. I would like to go to strictly selling Jewelry after the holidays as it is smaller and would not clutter my house so bad.. My DH could probably tolerate it more..

I too try to do the best in describing Items, like you no returns the better I like it.. Think I had one this past year, boots were a childs size and lady thought they were youth sized.. Oh well.

I can live with..they do get you the customers..you do pay every month regardless if you have a sale or not, but have very few months where there were no sales. The customers for the most part are good to deal with. Only sell on RL the best of what I have & describe fully..don't want returns &
have had very few to almost none over the years....Lil

HI PAT, doesn't it seem like a pain in the neck to join Ruby Lane? and it seems like they make so many demands I guess it all depends on what you become accustomed to.. I just sold a pair of Mariam Haskell earrings for 9.99 because they were not pristine.. metal was corroded, etc.. So it would be something for someone with time and patience to work on.
But have a pair of De Lillos listed that are perfect, no bids.. but maybe too high for Ebay.. Know they sell for much more..

I know I just sold a gun stock for my brother and Ebay/Paypal took out about 16.00, I sold a scope for him, last month for 550.00 and they took out 61.00 and for my DH Harley coat at 325.00 they took out 42.00. I could have used that extra money.. Cannot imagine cut they get out of some Carnival glass that sells in the thousand dollar range.

Sorry I missed you, had a family funeral from cousin that passed at 38yrs old.. Sad.. and my son had Carotid artery surgery the same day cousin died.

there isn't much selling on ebay unless you are a dealer that sells massive amounts of things, like packing supplies. It seems ebay has been taken over by the "mass market" sellers.

Does anyone have any good informational jewelry sites like designers Jewelry, and Costume jewelry? I am been trying to use goodle but half the time you do a search for something you just get more names with the question in it, like going around in circles.. All the other boards have a information site like we use to on the old one but no one seems to have any for the Jewelry board like we once had..

That reminds me PAT I am having one heck of a time selling anything on Ebay as well. Might have something to do with Google & eBay having personality conflicts and Google did not want to advertise any of Ebays listings.

Thats why I am considering giving Etsy a try, and not waste my time on pictures to put on ebay and pay for them, and nothing in return.

JO do you have a copy of the old list of Jewelry web sites we use to have here, I am not sure which one of you girls use to post it or took turns it had a big Pirates Chest with jewels spilling out. Wondering who would have it? I see the Glass board nd the Pottery board has a link for theirs not sure why we do not have it..

HI JO Yes thats the name I was thinking of, wondering how they make those beads? this is a nice double long hanging necklace looks like it would be tied in a knot over a sweater but its not tied it was sort of woven in like that at the one spot the rest hangs loose.. Caught my eye right away the way the black and blue shines, reminds me of Carnival Glass..

OH PAT I missed you again, did not realize it had been so long since I checked in. My sales were really stagnate the last month or so, but this week, I am wondering if I have enough packing supplies.. and I have to stay off here to get them all packed. Amazing feast or famine.. This week we eat steaks. 😆 I do not sell on any of those places you mentioned, I did sign up for Webstore, as its all FREE, https://www.webstore.com/register.php
But really just got started, only listed 2 items to see how the listing and site works.. I should get some more up to give it a chance.. Nothing to lose by trying, they do not even ask for your bank numbers.. Thats a plus, and you can accept MO or any other way you want them to pay.

Wishing you better luck.. Maybe parents have more time now that the kids are out of school.. Not sure why, but a friend mentioned that.

Hey all, don't know about anyone else but I can't sell anything on ebay no matter how much I cut my prices. I am thinking of just giving it up. It doesn't seem worth the effort anymore. I know my items are getting listed at the very end of the listings and that hurts sales a lot. I am not a power seller and at this rate I won't be. Here that Etsy is thinking about hooking up with Amazon. That could be good news.

Bought a pretty pair of Lisner Clip on earrings last week, they look like turq & navy leaves. Not sure how many are still buying Clip ons anymore.. So much jewelry, I must take the time to lay out a lot of it and take pictures and sell in lots, They use to sell that way here not sure anymore.. So much I should be doing..

I just got a notice that from now til the 31st, I can list 2000 items at Fixed prices.. I would be lucky to get 50 done.. Cannot imagine handling 2000 items and know where they all were. That would be mind boggling unless you have a really good system set up and room for it all, or even help with the business, I have none of that.. 😆 Hope your getting lots of sales.. never heard of TACE.
I guess I will have to do a Search.. RL seems to have so many restrictions or rules you have to go by I find it confusing..

I have been checking in, but cannot stay, DH is home and expecting to eat. IMagine that.
I had a BFF whom she & DH did not have any children I think due to him having mumps as achild.. But her and I always exchanged MD cards and I gave her a plant many times.. She really wanted kids, and like you had many nieces & Nephews she catered to..
Such is life, we handle what God grants us..

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY! hope every woman here had a wonderful mother's day.i never got to have children but i have always had dog and cat kids as well as bird, fish, etc. and i have been an 'aunt' or 'grandma' to many children so i am treated as if i have human kids on mother's day. i think 99% of childless women actually mother other people's children at times......so if you are female, Happy Mother's Day to you!

i cut my hours back at work to 32 hours because i needed the extra day to rest......so tuesday i am taking over the three shelves at the antique mall i rented. hopefully it won't be wasted time and money. i had a full showcase last time i was there and made money but burned out. maybe three shelves won't be too much of a drag and i can get rid of some of the stuff around here.

anyone out there besides shelly, pat, and myself?

Would like to sell it all, but its laying it all out to display it for pictures thats the hardest thing to do, and then having to describe it too.. I did sell some Joan Rivers items that was easy to sell, still in boxes.. Wish I could run across more of that. Not asking much am I..

Haven't seen LEON stop by in awhile.. According to his last post he was still doing flea markets.

Hope you gals do stop by. I am still selling, keep thinking at my age I should just get rid of it all and enjoy life. But it does supplement the SS $ dontcha know?

I am trying to clean out a lot of my stuff: I gave a ton of jewelry to the local hospice thrift store and I am clearing out some of the pottery etc. as well.

Good seeing you are still surviving, and selling too.
I agree, whats really alarming sellers right now is the Free Relisting they started last month, and now its not free. People even tho they unchecked the relisting box, are still getting thier items relisted and charged for it.. If you get the Ecommerce Email, you can see it there.. One lady paid almost 50.00 more on her bill due to that automatic relist box.. Even if you unchecked it ebay was relisting it.. What a way to gyp the seller. For me not that big of a problem but for some who have big time listings like a 1000 or two it would really add up..

So hope you and family have a much better year this New Year.. and catch you another time. Sure do miss the old board. Where it was always busy and moved right along..

Hi joolies, It's been a while since my last post. I hope all had good holidays, I think we did, we survived all the colds , flu , bronchitis. Now we are dug in for the frigid weather the next few days. Supposed to dip to 12 and stay below feezing till Friday.
Looks like eBay is pretty much done as far as small sellers go. It will be interesting to see what happens after the split. I don't hold out a lot of hope.
We are still plugging along at the fleamarket, It hasn't been that great either but seems to pick up on nice days, still profitable 🙂

Yes I think I will continue until the time is right to take all treasures to an auction, the Flea Market Sellers will be buying by March.. Than I will stick to small things, easy to pack, easier to stow.. Jewelry, Video games, maybe even books.. I have plenty of those I need to sort out..
Its nice having the extra money there when you see something you want.
Will be interesting to see how things work out with ebay. Surprised they did not have more Free listings during the holidays because they knew it would be slow.. I am sure they have noticed a slow down in there income.
Char you can always schedule pick ups by mail man, OR just put a note on mail box to have them come to the house, I put a note on mail box, pick up and Sometimes let it set outside by the door.. They get paid extra for bringing in packages, so its a bonus for them I think.. Saves on gas as well.

Well I have to tend to the Pork & Sauerkraut for tonight Going to sons to play cards & eat..

Shelly, I was going to ask you about ebay but I now see what your thinking. I sold a jacket on there last month. First time I tried it in a couple of years. Was thinking of starting up again but don't like all the new rules. It always was more for the buyer then seller and seems even worst now. I still have tons I'ld like to sell but when I check things seems like the prices are way down. If I want to give it away I can do that at a sale. Oh well I'll be trying some things again soon. I don't drive anymore so have to depend on hubby togo to the post office. He says he doesn't mind.
Ok, think I'll go look a few things up and decide what to do for now.

I am seriously thinking about quitting Ebay.. Than I think maybe if I get rid of all these boxes etc, I could just sell the jewelry I have been stock piling.. or something small, it gets so hard to find bubble wrap anymore, and get tired of wrestling with big boxes, and looking for things..
I think I am going to start thinking small!

Doubt anyone will stop in to read this so will cut it short. Lets hope Ebays new people in charge will be kind.. Going to check out Movies I asked DH to go to one today.. Any suggestions? Usually see a movie that will be coming out advertised, by the time it comes forget what it was..

Glad to see your wife is recovering nicely, and that DS is up walking around, sad about the limp, but yes better then having lost it.. Hope he appreciates life more now after that bout.

Helllllllooooooooo, Hi Y'all, Just checkin' in, not much goin' on for online sales, still tryin' to sell at the fleamarket. Hope all is well for all of you and yours. The Ms P had to have surgery for a hernia but is recuperating nicely. The kid finished rehab and now walks with a limp, I rekon that's a blessing, could have been much worse.

HI LIL, Still have not gotten around to taking pictures of my jewelry to list.. Had a couple minor surgeries that set me way back in time.. But doing well, nothing life threatening, tho we thought maybe a kidney, but all is well, Thank the Lord.. Planning on a yard sale next month so what isn't selling here might go then, Hopefully.. Just too many irons in the fire, I know you can relate..

Shelly..do a search on ebay for rose quartz necklace...I had some rose quartz..of course it is very cold when you place on your cheek, it was light pink with some white through it...not very valuable. For an idea of value find the completed auctions for it..Loveoldstuff-Lil.

hate the cold . i have a wood burner for heat and i am almost out of wood.
best thing i ever bought.
Leon they are going to call me on monday. what crap returns that long are just nuts.
sales are a little better but that's just because i have my flower bulbs up for sale.
I still miss all the old chat rooms..... those were the fun times for me.. lol

Hi lil, and everyone, just popping in, looks like we may as well all give up ebay, sales are few and far between, and now they are changing the feedback system to give themselves more freedom to manipulate seller's standing, in order to eliminate any discounts seller has earned. Also they are pressuring sellers to give longer return periods, like it's gonna take a buyer 30 or 60 days to decide if they really want this item they purchased. That's how they increased it from 3 to 4 to 7 to 10 and 14 days, first they suggest, then pressure, and finally make it mandatory. I had an appointment for a representative to call me and explain why my good reputation on ebay was in danger because I had a couple of neutrals, one because a watch band was not imitation leather like I described, and another because an insured pot was broken in transit and was returned as "not as described" so I had to pay postage for return. The rep called and after bragging on me for a while she suggested I lower my prices, offer 30 day returns, get a store, and save even more than I'm saving already :). Well I had to explain to her that I've already been down that road, had a store and did quite well, until they blocked all store items from search returns (I never did figure out what their reasoning was on that except the store did have cheaper listing fees) We figured at the time they were going to do away with stores. But not so now, apparently they would rather you have a store over running free auctions and fixed price listings:). Anyway when I gaze into my crystal ball , I see the colors fading in ebay's logo, and a not so bright future 🙂 my 2 cents worth, Leon ,

Hi All Joolies...Just a quick fly by..Havn't forgotten you all...glad to be able to post again. I don't do ebay anymore do to my other shops taking all my time...I do ebay when I get something very unusual which is few & far between. Doing okay at the rocky road, etc. I have plenty to do just keeping up my shops on line, plus the space at the antique shop. Taxes are finally in & awaiting to hear from the accountants to sign the papers. Hope everyone is well & talk at ya again soon...Loveoldstuff

Hi peeps, Shelly, Cil, Jo, doreen, Pat and anyone I missed. 🙂 Can't believe I haven't been here since christmas. Really been burning the candle at both ends. The kid is walking again without props. After multiple surgeries and a couple of months in a motorized wheelchair, he now walking but having physical therapy twice a week. Getting his strength back. We've got a new manager at the flea and that has taken more of our time. The weather hasn't been all that great here in the balmy south either, sub zero nights with sub freezing highs during the days with snow and ice all over is not something this old boy can get used to. We are total electric and our bill is over $300 a month the last couple of months. But lucky we didn't lose power. Nice to see a few warm days, can't be too long till it gets better, saw Canadian Geese heading North, March lillies are blooming and the Maples are budding. So what's the question of the day??? Glad to see some life in here, y'all stay warm 🙂

HI LIL, I too have a Multitude of Books, I keep saying I am going to get rid of them and Don't. I have so many gardening books, I wish I could sell. and reading books, some I will never get around to reading, but that was my plan for retirement, they are still packed in the closet.. and more underfoot that I have acquired while out treasure hunting.. Just not enough time in the day..
I was intent on putting all the first editions into one lot and selling them locally, but have not even done that.. Woe is Me..
Glad your making headway with your Taxes. How come you do not sell on Ebay? I see you have some nice things, I have borrowed my Friends White Box with intentions of taking pic, but have not got around to that either.. "OVERWHELMED" is still the word of the day.. Winter is still around sorry to say as we had another couple of inches this morning..snarling up traffic & lots of accidents here in No. VA. Still doing my taxes, but ahead so far. I go into the discussion boards everyday & find them interesting. Also the FlyLady site sends me a few emails everday so it is drummed into my head about doing 15 minutes of clean up everyday (where it is overwhelmiing). Books can get into piles, they are like bunnies multiplying by the tens. I did go thru a few & kept what I know what I would read soon. Already the piles have doubled. I do happen onto the PGP Board occasionally, to see whats happening and I keep saying I need to post a couple of items to see if anyone recognizes them, but never make it that far, Need to take pic. Our taxes all done and sent in, waiting for returns.. this being the first year, since DH retired, only taxable income was Vacation pay. So we will be using some to take a vacation, we have not taken one in about 5 years.. Catcha later..

LIL, I too have to get working on mine.. Needing to do some research first.. On what income is taxable, 2013 is the first year for DH retirement/SS, Not to mention his sick pay from the VA.. So it will be a first for me too.

Getting ready for the big storm here. Shelly..have you gotten the dailes on the Fly Lady sight? These can be up to about 8 or so a day, but I read at least half & they do give you good ideas to help you purge & get things done everyday tasks too. As far as doing up my taxes I have made a good start by putting everything I need into one file & will do a little every few days..that is the only way I can take this awful chore made into increments & I know that it is getting done a little at a time...better then rushing around at the last final days.

Hi All Joolies...I couldn't get in a while ago, but now I see I am here..have to write down my password & keep it handy.
I did go to a big indoor antique/flea market a few weeks ago. I was able to buy a few pins of different insects, cats & butterflies...which I always can sell in my closed cabinet at my antique spot.
I am thinking that folks who posted years ago did so because what they were selling would be available to view. Often wonder why people pay big money on Red Road when likely to find the same stuff on ebay for less money.. I know I can be as busy as I want to be on Ebay, but when you have cabinets in antique shops you are committed to being busy.. Sounds like too much work, specially at the price of gas today..
