• hello to shelly and anyone else who drops by.
shelly, wee you thinking perhaps of the word 'dichroic'? not sure how that word would relate to your beads but it is the only word i can think of think of that starts out that way.

  • hi everyone, yes, happy birthday to infamousyeti, who ever you are! hope you have a good one!
not much going on, another rainy day here. i plan on taking it easy and spending the day reading and browsing the internet.
    everyone have a great day!

  • HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY! hope every woman here had a wonderful mother's day.i never got to have children but i have always had dog and cat kids as well as bird, fish, etc. and i have been an 'aunt' or 'grandma' to many children so i am treated as if i have human kids on mother's day. i think 99% of childless women actually mother other people's children at times......so if you are female, Happy Mother's Day to you!

i cut my hours back at work to 32 hours because i needed the extra day to rest......so tuesday i am taking over the three shelves at the antique mall i rented. hopefully it won't be wasted time and money. i had a full showcase last time i was there and made money but burned out. maybe three shelves won't be too much of a drag and i can get rid of some of the stuff around here.

anyone out there besides shelly, pat, and myself?

  • hi shelly and pat, good to see you both. pat, i also miss chatting with people. i wish this board was as active as the old JB. but...........i am as guilty as anyone else of not coming on here and doing my part to make and keep the board active. i vow i am going to check this board at least once a week and try to find somewhat interesting things to post......maybe jewelry questions?
pat, are you still selling on ebay? anywhere else?
shelly, i am trying to remember.......your first love is glass??

  • hi shelly, how odd that we would check this board within a day of each other, lol i have nothing to say......just wondering if anyone had been by here. so 'Hello' to everyone, and hoping you have a wonderful day!

  • sorry to say this is the first time in months i have checked in here......i haven't much to say except that i hope everyone (and their loved ones) is in good health and happy in spirit.......and i hope everyone has a very happy thanksgiving!

  • poop! i had a whole post typed and lost it! that is so frustrating. i had nothing to say anyway. i am snowed in and starting to get bored. there is a lot of housework i could do but that's no fun!...:(
guess i just came here to say 'Hi!' to everyone and hope everyone else has it easy on the snow..............and if they don't, i hope they stay safe and warm. and remember that their pets get cold too!

  • hi shelly, do you have windows 8 in yiour laptop? that is what I am having a hard time with!

lil, I am computer illiterate so am not sure what you are asking. I have my own wifi here at my house. I think I pay 50 or 60 a month for it...........more than I was comfortable with but I finally broke down and got it. I live out in the middle of nowhere so my choices for hooking up with internet are limited. it is a satellite dish through dish network and I paid an extra 50 when they put it in so I don't have to plug my computer in to it......so it is truly wireless I guess.

  • hi everyone! my laptop crashed and I lost all my links...........then lil was kind enough to send it to me. 🙂 it would be great if this board became more active and we actually had daily posts!!

we could do a question a day...........would anyone be interested in something like that? does anyone else have any ideas of what might make people more interested in reading/posting on the board?

  • hi everyo*e, just a quick check i*. i have two letters broke* o* my laptop and ca*'t get it i* to *e fixed u*til mo*day.....so will *ot frustrate a*yo*e with a lo*g post to try to read. hope you all are well a*d stayi*g cool!

  • waving at leon ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

katie, looks victorian to me too

shelly, gloria vanderbilt did/does use the swan logo on jewelry as sell as swarovski using an almost identical one. for the M or W, you might try illusion jewels, i can't think of anyone who used that mark right now.

have been working 7 days a week and 10 hrs a day..........except for sunday when i only work 6 or 7 hours. i am way too old to keep this up much longer, i said i would do this instead of part time until they found someone else to fill the position and they are not even looking. (sigh) they did hire someone to help me and she is 25 years younger but has only half the energy and drive that i do. so on top of the days and hours i have to listen to her complain about how tired she is. 🙁

  • hi katie! how have you been?
on your butterfly, i think maybe not d&e/juliana........the clasp doesn't look like one they used and i don't see any figure 8 puddling on the back........BUT, there are exceptions to ever rule and i could very well be wrong and it is a juliana.
are you a member of the Jewelry Ring? if not, you can subscribe by going here: Jewelry_Ring-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
they have a whole album of d&e/juliana you can look through to see if you can find a piece like yours. and when you are looking, remember that the colors of the stones can be different from the one you find in the photos, its the design and construction you are trying to identify.
good luck! its a lovely butterfly, juliana or not. 🙂

  • hey leon, how are you and the princess doing? after very warm spring weather here, we are now having very cold weather again. i am just crossing my fingers that the peach and nectarine crops from my two trees isn't ruined in the next couple of nights. i have some seeds started but in no hurry to put anything out yet.

  • tom desmond, sorry, i have no experience with that at all. are you looking for new or antique/vintage fine jewelry? keep checking back as some of the others might have advice for you. welcome to the board, btw!

  • HAPPY VALENTINES DAY! hope you all are having a loving day 🙂

  • and happy birthday to virginia! i don't know you but if you have registered on this chat board we must have jewelry in common. 🙂

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY PAT!!! hope you are having a wonderful one! 🙂

  • leforme, and passing on those higher fees to the buyers is going to alienate a bunch of them who thing we are pocketing most of the shipping fees already. 🙁

  • has everyone heard about the increase in postage rates on jan 27th? when i sell jewelry overseas i usually ship first class international, and the fee for that is going to increase by 59%! postage on parcel post is going way up also..........and i use that usually for large items. between postage, site fees, advertising fees, fvf, paypal fees...........did i forget any?...........maybe we should institute 'seller fees' so we get a share.

  • sheesh, reread my post and realized that apparently i couldn't talk if it weren't for the word 'I'. it would be nice to be able to rewrite it so it wasn't so stupid sounding..........i i i i i . 🙁

  • hi tom, welcome to the board. most, if not all, of the regulars on here are into vintage costume jewelry rather than 'fine' jewelry. and i think most, if not all of us, are sellers and mainly buy to resell. i do want to welcome you to the board and hope you will join in any discussions. 🙂

hi to everyone else, too! hope you are all well and staying warm.

i am back on ebay with a store, TenDogNight, and made 3 small sales the first 3 days. i have a ton more inexpensive stuff to list but of course had a computer/camera problem and am waiting for an external floppy drive for the laptop to arrive. i am encouraged by the sales......small sales are better than no sales. i am doing free shipping but i marked the prices up to cover it............i am going to wait a couple of months and then see if selling on ebay is equal to or more profitable than a rl store. i would be interested in hearing on here from all of the rest of you as to what sites if any you are having sales on. 🙂

  • bee, i hate to be crude but sometimes thats the best way to say something...........so, in response to your post: that sucks. i just hope they pay you really really good wages to put up with them!

i bought some jewels today for the first time in a long time. a miracle brooch that i think is a kilt pin, two lucite bracelets..........one with rhinestones and the other in clear with big yellow dots in it. i am hoping to sell them (rotflmao!)

  • bee, so you didn't gain much in your new contract? sounds like the same old abusive work schedule for you. 🙁 do you get christmas eve and christmas day off?
i have an appt with the dr on monday to get my knee checked........while talking to his nurse on the phone she said that sometimes when patients are really active right after surgery this might happen. i don't remember any cautions at the times.....just said to do whatever you can do without much pain so i was back at work and on my feet for 8 hours 4 days later.

  • just a quick check-in. hoping everyone is well and the weather isn't too bad where you all live. finally turned cold here......a temp drop of about 50 degrees at night over what it was a few days ago. my old joints are feeling the cold.....the newly reconstructed knee is extremely uncomfortable and i am trying to decide which hip to have done first, lol!
    waving at you all ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  • just checking in for the first time in a long time. hope everyone had a wonderful thanksgiving.

leon, i am so sorry for your loss. you and your princess will be in my thoughts.

  • friend wanted me to sell some of his late mother's jewelry and i told him no, that i valued his friendship too much to try to explain to him that either noone wanted to buy it (and it is wonderful stuff) or that i could only get pennies on the dollar of what it is worth. from what i hear, virtually noone is having many sales. a year ago, i thought sales couldn't get worse and i was obviously wrong. 🙁

  • hi doreen, yep, i usually quit right before i figured they were going to fire me for being too mouthy. but i admire anyone who can work at a job like that and not quit or get fired. the stress always got to me and i could not keep it up.
i didn't know you were taking care of your mom............don 't let yourself get worn out, you won't be doing either one of you any good if you do. if you ever need any prayers for her just ask. 🙂

  • keep me updated deb.....i am interested in how it turns out. if they have so much work to get done they should be building another plant somewhere and creating more jobs. personally, i think that working people so many hours should be outlawed. when you feel threatened that you will lose your job if you don't work the unreasonable overtime then the company should be open to punishment. i can't think of what term would work but it is clearly holding a gun to your head..........

  • oh deb! it sounds like some sweat shop! my brother works as a welder for harley davidson and he regularly works 60+ hour weeks......overtime not optional. what gets me is they lay workers off, the pay overtime to the ones who are left. that makes no sense to me. he is my baby brother but he is still 52 and all the money he carefully saved for his retirement has disappeared in the economy so he feels like he will never get to retire and he is very tired.
i would think that companies would realize that working their employees to death is not very productive in the long run. how many points do you get if you tell them just what you think of them?? LOL! thank goodness i was always a consistantly high producer when i worked in places like that because my mouth would have gotten me fired if i wasn't......and i knew it.

  • good grief deb! how can you go to sleep at 4 in the afternoon so you can get 8hrs of sleep before you go to work? they are being inhumane! don't you usually start work about 7am? but the way your hours have been jumping around lately i think it is time to renegotiate your contract and try to get some consistancy to your starting hours so you can have some sort of normal routine to your life. my father worked rotating shifts for many years and i never understood how he.....or anyone......could go to sleep at a totally different time of day every 3 weeks.

  • helen, cute joke. 🙂 someone once told me to look under the tail and if it is an exclamation point it is one sex and if it is a question mark it is the other.....i never could sell a question mark, LOL. recovery from the knee surgery has so far been very good.....a little discomfort but no 'pain'. it sure is an ugly looking knee right now though!

we actually had a day and a half of rain.....it was wonderful. hope we get more soon.

  • oh..........i had knee surgery tuesday morning and i am feeling great. pain of course, but not as much as i feared. i am so excited about soon being able to walk without pain! in fact i'm already wondering if my other knee is bad enough yet to get it fixed too lol!

  • happy thursday everyone. leon, msP must be getting better if she can even lift a cast iron skillet with that wrist......those things are both heavy and hard to balance! good for her.........she must have been doing her therapy like she was supposed to.
helen, sounds like you did really good with mary kay! did you get one of the pink cadillacs? are metal home accessories selling now? i have a couple of BIG copper pieces from pottery barn in my garage that are on the list to sell but i didn't know if copper was 'in' enough to get much for them.
it is hot here. we had a reprieve from the severe heat for about a week......it was in the 90s, but now hot again. and we actually got a little bit of rain so now it is humid heat. :/
hope you all are well and staying cool!

  • feels like a cold front here the last few days............temps in the lower 90s! still no rain though. prices on lots of things will be high this year..........most corn dried up in the fields without setting fruit.

  • good morning everyone. helen, good luck with your dental appt! i will be thinking of you. i just had my first root canal and after all the stuff i had heard about them i was pleasantly surprised. it was really no worse painwise than a filling. i had the second appt yesterday to get it finished and my dentist was showing me the x-rays and the little thing they put in there that anchors it.........it was orange in color but he said "it's made out of gutta percha, do you know what that is?" and i said yes, i do know what it is but never saw it in orange before, LOL!

leon, i did find a mark on one of my little silver colored trays.....it is oneida so probably plated. and i took pics of the other one but am having trouble with the computer that has a floppy drive in it so can't get them loaded to imageevent.

i have three little girls staying here.......9-12 yrs. old........and they are keeping me busy. they are a big help in cleaning the garage and trying to make sense of all the 'treasures' i have stored out there.......the garage sale pile is enormous already and we are only half way through. cecelia, your sale sounds like it was a winner..........a short and sweet sale venue like that is great, i dread having two or three days of sitting around hoping someone will come by and buy something. 🙁

  • bee, oh lordy..........i bet you get to buy 2nds! thin mints..........i would gain sooooo much weight. i would rather eat fried samoas than fried pickles, LOL

still in the triple digits here every day........actual temps of 101-105 normal now, heat index higher. trying to keep my trees and shrubs alive..........amazingly, the tomato plants are still alive even without being watered.

josef had angioplasty yesterday morning......they put in three stints. he went home today and is feeling sleepy but good and says he is not struggling to get oxygen now. before he felt like he couldn't breathe.......the three places they put in the stints were 90% blocked so his body wasn't getting the oxygen it needed.

me being cut down to two afternoons a week is a pain in the pocketbook, but good because the heat was starting to take a toll on me. i am going to have two young girls 11 and 12 staying with me for a week and they are excited about getting the garage stuff ready for a garage sale......i am excited about them getting it done and over with. 🙂 i think i will set them up with boxes of stuff and price labels, then come inside and clear out some stuff in here to put in the sale too. there is going to be a storage auction half a block up the street the middle of this month.....and that should be a good time to set out a garage sale with tables where they can be seen from the auction site.

hope everyone is staying cool, leon.....great buy on the s&p set! sorry sales are so bad, i had hopes that with this heat people would be online buying stuff because they were bored.

  • where do you work deb? you don't know until the day before what hours you will have to work? that sucks. makes it hard to plan stuff!

  • yahoo! we got an inch of rain last night/early this morning! pepto bismal worked on the doggy, fiance is out of the hospital with a diagnosis of a hernia causing all the back pain but they can't do surgery until he loses mucho weight, my tooth does not hurt anymore and the infection is responding to the anti-biotics--------what a difference 24 hours can make. 🙂 now if the borrowers would visit and steal a bunch of stuff and the elves came and cleaned my house life would be almost perfect, LOL!

  • oh, and one of my dogs has bloody diarrhea tonight so if the pepto bismal hasn't worked miracles by morning he has to go to the vet and i am sure that will be xrays at the very least! i cleaned out my piggy bank to put a payment on my root canal this morning so sure am glad i have both a dentist and a vet who trust me and let me make payments! when it rains, it pours. right leon and helen? 🙂

  • helen, i sure agree with you and art!

pawdee, glad to hear you and the princess are starting to get better.........seems like the two of you have had enough sickness and accidents to last you for awhile!

back to triple digits in temps here.........i have given up trying to save the plants i planted this year and just trying to save the trees and big bushes like lilacs and hydrangeas now. we are losing plants like crazy in the greenhouses and shaded sales areas now at work. i am down to two days a week of working there.......no one is buying plants for their gardens because it is a waste of money, no crops are surviving in the fields even with irrigating.....no crops, no fresh produce to sell, no need for jo to be there as much. and working out in the heat for 3-4 hours each afternoon was starting to get to me, i'm getting too old for that.

i had my first root canal today. 🙁 and my fiance is in the hospital for a cat scan tomorrow and they try to finally find out what is wrong with his back. they found that his t cells are not elevated so that takes away some of the worry about the spot they found on his liver (?). he is having so many health problems right now that i am getting the organs confused. they are shelving treatment of his gall bladder until they get the back problem diagnosed. then i go to the ortho dr. in a couple of weeks about the knee i fell on and damaged last year......the mri showed bone spurs, swelling, arthritis, and 'loose objects'. but no explanation of what 'loose objects' are..........when i hear that phrase i visualize nuts, bolts, coins, etc. floating around in there, lol.

i hope that the rest of you are doing well........bee? leforme? amber? mim?

    waving at marson~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  • was scrolling.......

where is pawdee?? hope he and mrs. p are ok!

infamousyeti......i was looking at your wirewrapping and noticed your name is amelie......are you the same amelie who used to chat on ebay's jewelry board? you were newly married at the time and had a job as (i think) a personal assistant or something like that to some hollywood agents?

  • leforme, and thanks for the info on the tags for clothing........i have clothing stashed to sell sometime and the tags are a great idea!

  • hi everyone. like most of you, it has been in the triple digits here, and we (kansas) are in a severe drought. my yard......front, back, side, and even part of the yard next door........is one huge garden, and i am losing plants i have had for years. also, i have noticed that the plants are having pests that i have never before seen on outdoor plants here...........i have a bunch of tomato plants that have mealy bugs! and at work i had to get rid of a dozen big pots of hibiscus because they were covered with aphids.......hibiscus are notorious for having aphids but when they are outside the natural predators eat the aphids and people usually don't even notice them. but where are the natural predators this year? i do have tons of praying mantis in my yard, every time i go out to water it seems like one gets on my arm......but i guess they don't eat mealy bugs. 🙁
i work 3-6 mon-thurs and it gets really hot in the greenhouses and sales barn, i might be getting too old to work there next summer if we can expect these temps again.
i have stopped trying to make any sales. i have one strore left, on ruby plaza, and i am just doing nothing with it........when ruby plaza closes at the end of the year i don't know if i will open a store elsewhere or not. to those of you with stores on other sites........are you making enough each month to pay the fees, and if so, how many hours a day are you having to work on your stores to make that? i am not very self disciplined unfortunately and without some regular positive input (sales) i get frustrated and give up. i absolutely admire those of you who do not get so discouraged and work on your listings/shops all the time!

  • hi helen, it is closing the end of the year. they are giving up on it after 2? 3? years of trying to get it going. i think it was a pretty good idea and have no idea why it never caught on. :/

  • hi everyone! hot and dry here.......i don't seem to have much computer time anymore, either i am at work watering or at home watering. and i am having acupuncture 3X a week trying to get y body to where it is a little more cooperative so that takes time also.
i hope everyone is doing well and having some sales. the only store i have now is on ruby plaza......so when it closes i don't know what i will do. i have so much stuff to get rid of and no idea of the best way to do it. if anyone has any ideas i would love to hear them!! even garage sales don't do good here. 🙁

  • hi everyone, just a quick post, having to type one handed since i am holding an abandoned kitten in the other one and she,,,,,i think i t is a she......is already spoiled and wants to be held all the time.

leon, if you haven't already found out, i think you email has been hijacked. 🙁

hope everyone is well and happy!

  • afternoon everyone! i think ireland for me..

  • QUESTION OF THE DAY: if you had to live six months of the year somewhere other than where you live now, where would you like that to be?

  • wonderful........a true love story. 🙂

  • sorry to hear your allergies are affecting you so much, mel! i worked today so no good finds for me.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to loveglass1965!!! hope you have had a wonderful day. 🙂

leon, how long have you and the princess been together?

  • i love everyone's answers to this question! and leon has the soul of a poet.....his love for his princess shines through every time he posts anything at all about her.

my answer would be: his intelligence, his teaching ability, and.....since all of his female students were chasing him.......the fact that there was a challenge involved.

  • QUESTION OF THE DAY: name three physical, spiritual, or character traits that attracted you to your 'significant other' (that included soul mates, spouses, etc.)

  • i think maybe 'vintage' was cecelia......and yes, where is she??? haven't seen her on here in quite awhile! i see lil posting occasionally on jewelry ring. and have no idea on rebecca.

i am very busy this time of year with my gardens. i am trying to make everything in the gardens/yard more self sufficient each year since i never know how much i will be physically able to do in the coming years. but........it seems like i do more and more work each year, all in the name of making it easier to take care of, LOL

  • happy mother's day to everyone who has ever mothered anyone or anything!

hi deb bee!! good to see you in here.

amber, i don't know which vintage person............was she on this board or only on the ebay one? we lost so many people when ebay closed the chat boards. 🙁

  • leon, i loved your story of your finding the princess and living happily ever after! and darn, you two are really having some health problems right now. 🙁 great news on your nephew though.......it's been a long hard road for him, so glad to hear he is doing so well.

my expectations were that i would get married in my early 20's and have three kids, maybe a few more, and have a house, a car or two, a husband with a steady job and maybe a part-time job myself. it was what i saw all around me......except if you had a husband you didn't work outside the house yourself, but i was a rebel,i wanted at least a part time job plus raising the kids, LOL. i come from a long line of farmers, and ideally i would have wanted to marry a farmer, have kids, and work on the farm.........but i lived in the 'city' (Kansas City) and knew my chances of meeting the right farmer on the weekends i spent visiting relatives were slim.

the reality, i didn't get married until i was 42, and i had to have a hysterectomy in my early 30's so i didn't get the kids. the marriage didn't work out, but i found josef soon after and we have been together for over 20 years. i spent my life working with animals......mainly veteranians......and have 9 dogs of my own as well as occasionally baby-sitting one for someone. i am one of those old ladies who talks to her pets like they are kids.......but kids or dogs, they all respond well to love and rules......so in rescuing the dogs (and cats and birds) i got the toddlers i always wanted. and now, i work part time on a farm, i have my gardening, my 'kids', and a loving man. i am not only happy, i am content.

  • QUESTION OF THE DAY: as children we had dreams/expectations of what our adult lives would be like........how does the reality differ from those dreams and expectations?

  • got my new laptop today.......i was afraid the keyboard would be too small, it was hard for me to visualize the size from the measurements online, but it is full size......yay! but i found out i am going to have to upgrade my modem now for one that is compatible with windows 7. so still on the desktop tonight. but i do think i am going to love this laptop alot more than my earlier one.

  • hi mim, i like to cook, i love to eat, too......and i certainly could lose more than a few pounds. 🙁 hope you are feeling better? is your gout better now?

leon, it's 'king of the hill' for me and i have no idea why! but i have to watch it before i go to bed at night.......and it is very soothing to me for some reason. btw, how are your shingles? and how is the princess's (???) wrist now?

  • i like the view also.....and i like the chew, but not as much as i like the view.

  • you can vote for anything you want! 🙂

  • QUESTION OF THE DAY: The View, The Chew, or The Talk?

  • the answer, as far as i know, is 000RRR. i was just wondering how many people would try to over think it. leforme thought about it......but her business was numbers if i remember correctly. 🙂

  • i hate it when that happens!

QUESTION OF THE DAY: if you had '000' and added 'RRR', what would you have?

  • QUESTION OF THE DAY:

  • LOL@pat! i can't believe myself lots of times too. i don't know what i would do with 4 extra hours.......i would like to believe i would do something humanitarian like volunteer work, or use the time to improve myself by taking classes, or maybe make money by organizing and listing stuff for sale. but i would probably take a nap or lay on the couch and read.

  • good morning leon, thanks for the info! i was going to make the drive to office depot, but after reading your post i looked at both walmart and office depot online and just ordered a refurbished hp from walmart for $300. and the best part is that i am having it shipped to me for 97 cents and i don't have to go out in the heat and humidity to drive from store to store, comparing prices and having my head explode from trying to understand what the salesmen are telling me, LOL! just like ebay but with a 90 day guarantee! 🙂

  • QUESTION OF THE DAY: if you had 4 extra hours every day how would you spend them?

  • nice to see mim back!

leon, didn't you buy new laptops recently? i need suggestions as i guess i am going to be in the market for one soon. i was thinking of going to office depot.....i looked at some there last year and there was one i could get for about $400. that would be fine for me and what i do with one. but if anyone has any suggestions for some i should look at please let me know!

  • ok, got an email that ruby plaza is closing on dec. 31...........sales have been next to non existant for me there anyway, but i thought it was my own fault for basically ignoring my store there.
the question is, for any of you who have a store on ruby lane, how are your sales on ruby lane? would you please give me the pros and cons of having a store on there?

and for people who have stores on other sites.......can you tell me how you are doing on those?

and for all of you, what are you selling the most of? jewelry? glass? pottery? i need to get rid of jewelry and china dinnerware with some glass...... but also am ready to start downsizing on a lot of collector books......on the collector books, ebay or another site?

  • QUESTION OF THE DAY: cave or treehouse?

  • leon, sorry to hear you are still in so much pain......shingles are horrible. 🙁

  • no sales for me. i am going in to work this afternoon, someone called in sick.

oh.....hors d'oeuvres! (had to look up the spelling.....not that i will remember it) LOL, i am a little slow sometimes.....i've never heard them called that before. 🙂

  • amber, hope your toothache is better today! what are 'horses doovies'?

  • amber, i've never heard of tj's or hummels hot dogs. 🙁 i have heard of b&m baked beans i think.....are they in a can at the grocery store? the only kind of 'baked beans' i buy are the vegetarian 'pork and beans'. b&m must be the kind the rich kids got to eat! LOL!

  • lol@leforme!!!

if i had to hurry to meet the friend, then they'd better like raw asparagus..... i do have some cheeses and olives....so i guess i could grab those and some crackers. some diet coke, maybe sneak in a bottle of asti in case what she had to tell me was good news. 🙂

  • QUESTION OF THE DAY: quick! a friend just called and wants to meet you on their lunch hour to tell you some important news.......and you said that you would grab some food from the refrigerator for a picnic lunch. what do you grab?

  • i could copy the whole answer on here but i am just going to give a link instead.....it's very informative!
    http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/445939/paste

  • hi mel, yep.....now tell me how they differ from crystal and glass rhinestones. 🙂

  • QUESTION FOR THE DAY: what are 'paste' stones?

  • well, it is wasn't fun at least you made money. :/ you are seeing a dr. for the shingles aren't you.........?

mim, hope you are feeling better.........

    amber~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

mel, love that you are helping us answer the questions!

  • how are you and mrs. p doing, leon? were you able to do the flea this past weekend?

  • whatever you think.

  • QUESTION OF THE DAY: gold or silver?

  • wow, i have never seen those before. quality, for sure. just did a quick search and apparently some czech jewelry was marked 'pat pend'. have you asked on jr or jc? i haven't been reading the emails from them....just too busy outside right now.

  • LOL, just reread my own post and see i called leforme's necklace 'MY' necklace.......hmmmmmm, guess its obvious i like it!!

  • good morning everyone.

mim, i'm sure jasper and jimmy will be taking good care of you until you feel better! i think gout was called the 'king's disease' so you are in good company. 🙂

leon, are you and mrs.p at the flea today? hope you both are feeling better also!

leforme, could you show a close-up of the rhinestone rondelles on my necklace? i keep looking at the pic and i am really wanting to see how they are constructed....i have never seen anything like them before and they are interesting.
on the set, the more i look at it, the more i wonder if it is a czech made set.....the beads are czech, the rondelles are unusual, the art glass beads.......seems like it might be a high quality czech made set. but.........did czech pieces ever have 'pat. pend' on them??
although hobe and trifari are also possibilities. the clasp reminds me of some hobe pieces i have had.....the massiveness of it.
oh heck, i just wish LTJ had left us his notes so we could be as smart as he was!

amber, i don't know........it was one of those questions asked so people would research the answer and learn......i have to look up the answer myself. 🙂

  • i just took another look......the more i look at that set the more i like it! the clasp has to go, lol! those big center beads are glass also? i'm sure they are...... it is definitely a class act......not what could be called 'runway', but i can see a model wearing it on the runway with a simple beige sheath......

  • mim, oh no! i am so sorry, i have heard gout is extremely painful! please keep us updated on how you are doing........

hi mel, fire polished (czech) beads can have an ab coating. 'fire polished' refers to the fact that they are polished over a hot fire after being machine faceted. they are often slightly irregular, and just not as crisp and perfect looking as swarovski beads. in jewelry, i think they are still a sign of quality and i am guessing that they would help narrow a piece of jewelry down to whether it was made in europe or in japan. 🙂 i agree the set looks like 70s. and for some reason that clasp is still saying sarah cov. to me. pat, did sarah cov. ever NOT mark their jewelry?

  • the clasp looks familiar....but i think it is reminding me of a brooch i have seen somewhere rather than a necklace clasp. i have never seen rhinestone rondelles like that before.....so perhaps they will be a clue. pretty set, but i have no idea who might have made it. are the bicones fire polished or swarovski?

  • QUESTION OF THE DAY: do you have any 'stashes' of things that you have bought but don't really try to sell because you enjoy just owning them?

  • good morning. leon, i have had shingles and can say that they are incredibly painful.......i hope that there is some med. that is helpful in relieving most of the pain for you. it's bad enough to have shingles, but with mrs. p's broken wrist.......you two need a maid or someone to do all that everyday stuff that needs to be done. i hope you both start doing better soon!

pat, interesting........i wasn't aware that hummels were down, don't think i've ever had one. i am curious if thomas kinkade paintings will be up for awhile since he recently died......
and the china, i love dinnerware and have 100s of pounds of it in my garage.....i does not sell for a respectable price at all anymore. 🙁
one thing i have noticed around this area at least is that francoma pottery is gaining value again at auctions. i used to pick up pieces for a dollar or two each and now they are going for $10.

and with that train of thinking, it leads me to the

  • QUESTION OF THE DAY: what years are called 'edwardian' period and does the edwardian period overlap with any other 'periods'?

  • hi lil, nice to see you again. 🙂

shelly was right on the 850pt mark.....i denotes that there are 850 out of 1,000 parts platinum in the metal.

  • QUESTION OF THE DAY: if the see the mark, '850pt' inside the band of a ring, what does that tell you?

  • i say double the scrap value. you can always come down.

you are right on the lorgnette. 🙂

  • did it again! 🙁

QUESTION OF THE DAY: what is a lorgnette?

  • QUESTION OF THE DAY:

  • the answer to the question, "The first major development in diamond cutting came during the later half of the 14th century, what was it?" is putting points on the cut stones. of course i can't find the article i was reading about it now, but it was a big deal when they started using the line of natural growth of the crystals and including points on the backs of the diamonds.
