Think we are getting rain AGAIN today but I should not complain. So many have such loss. Hard to believe.

Morningggg!
These were in a very old chocolate box belonging to my grandmother. I am thinking Victorian. One (not shown, a sash clip) marked F.N. & Co.

Hi Jo! Thanks so much! It was in a dollar bag of junky stuff. It was just shining out at me, so I brought it home.
We are all fine here after some horrific snowstorms that brought down whole trees. As we do our yard work ourselves it has taken a while--but I am down to the skinny sticks now.
Will check out the site you gave me. Thanks so much. I love this stuff.

I have two pictures (not terrific) of what I THINK is a Juliana butterfly. Any ideas?
It is FINALLY warm(ish) here!!!

Hi everyone! Nice to see so many chatting here.
I know I should have taken pix of the backs, and I will. I am curious about the age of these two garage sale finds.
The small one with amethyst color stones and faux pearls is a pin and a pendant.

Good evening! Waiting on some corn bread in the oven, then will heat up the soup.
Shelly was it you that had the elephant bracelet? I dropped mine and broke some of the black out, and can't find the broken piece. Hanging into it in case I find it and can reglue it.

Happy New Year everyone! It's warm & sunny in Missouri (wasn't a few days back) and I am full of very peppery roasted tomato and basil soup--we stopped at our fave place on the way home from returning things that did not fit, etc.
I have these metal buttons that I now believe we got in Iran in the 1950s, I think they are copper. A magnet does not stick. I am trying to figure out how old they are and a possible value as I do wish to sell (locally). They are 1 3/4" across. Ideas?

Good morning everyone! Surely EVERYONE isn't out shopping? I hope everyone had a great day and has a great weekend!
I found this at a nearby garage sale, and alcohol dripped on does not make it tacky. It is warm to the touch.
The silver looks like plate. Inside looks like bits of leaves.http://i39.tinypic.com/122m720.jpg
Ideas, anyone? It's almost 2" long by 1 1/8" wide. Thanks ever so much.

Gooood morning everyone. I know I don't come here to talk much but I do read the board and have learned so much in the short time the new boards have been up!
Doreen love your mare & foal!
I am just now noticing the advertising collectibles board, and as DH was IN advertising for 40 years
we should have some stuff around.I often look at jewelry on eBay as years ago three things (actually many more) were stolen in a break-in:
International Silver sterling large seagull hair clasp or barrette, my Confirmation cross with a toothmark on it, and a cabochon garnet pin left to me by a dear friend of the family.I actually found the identical seagull on a selling site, sadly it was already sold and no information was forthcoming. I keep thinking these things will turn up but it was over 30 years ago. I would know the cross in a second, and I have a different one my mother left me.
Funny how this just popped into my head today.
Katie
They were probably melted down ages ago and the pin, who knows.

My sister irons everything and so did my mother. She had an old soda bottle with a shaker cap and she would sprinkle water on the clothes and press. I remember the sounds, and the smell of the hot cotton, so clean after hanging in the sun. I have an old wooden ironing board that I of course have padded well to use, wouldn't give it up for anything. We were living in a house that was in dispute in an estate (we didn't own it, just rented). The woman who supposedly owned it was threatening to burn it down.
My mother, while we were moving out, supervised the move as I had a new baby. I actually had gone on ahead of the packers and movers so when the van arrived in Missouri, it had a bunch of stuff on it that had been in the house that actually was to stay with it. A windsor chair and the ironing board were in this batch, as my mother could not bear to see it burned. There were old trunks in the attic, you name it was up there and I think this gal made good on her promise because one day there was no house. Glad my mother
did what she did.Katie

Well, thank goodness mothers nursed their babies then, at least that protected them a little from disease. And no Pampers--I tried the cloth diapers but I didn't do a good job of it and my youngest got diaper rash (I changed him often, switched soaps, everything). I can imagine the white diapers fluttering from the mast in the breeze.
Windows washed, floor washed, and a lot of organizing done.

I have no idea. I just know it was made for the ship's captain's (great great grandfather) cabin in the 1880s. I think I have papers saying it was 1883, and probably made for my great-great grandmother who sailed with him. My mother's grandfather (I think) was born in France as they had to put in to Le Havre so she could have the baby. The hospital raised an American flag so he would also have an American birth certificate, as well as a French one. I have a copy. In French.

Here is my highboy. Closeup of the Sandwich glass knobs were awful. The piece is 56" tall X 44" wide, X 20 1/2" (just over) deep. Remember it was made to fit in a Captain's cabin on a ship from the 1880s. It has two cracks in the side.
I wonder if they should be repaired.http://i56.tinypic.com/5c0jma.jpg

You know, I don't have any good pictures of the highboy but I will get one. The bed is disassembled (I chose to leave the mattress for the dumpster) and wrapped up. The litle dog in the red coat--Cairn or Westie?
Yipes, I will fall over in a heap if I don't get to bed.

Glitz, I don't know. I will post the bigger pix and maybe you can tell. Looks like the loop that snap closed (painfully I might add) is missing from one. And I am thrilled the furniture. If the jewelry is gold (does not attract a magnet)
I will sell ONLY if things get tougher here. We have an electric guitar up for sale on CL and youngest is parting out his Ludwig drums and Zildjian cymbals.Making a donation of clean dog bed, towels and sheets to no-kill animal shelter. That feels right.
And what the heck bit me?? It's not poison ivy, and is mildly itchy, flat rash about the size of a quarter. Been there over a week. I wake up scartching it and it makes me mad, have to get up and apply Neosporin.

The highboy and robe bed were made for the ship, so they are unusual sizes. The knobs on the highboy are Sandwich glass made in Massachusetts.

Glitz & Leon, thank you! I will have it checked by my "gold guy" who is really good. I will see if I can enlarge the pix.
They were in a box in the highboy, and also three family Bibles that go back over 200 years, beautiful damask napkins (now clean and de-yellowed and pressed), beautiful baby bonnets and bibs (one crocheted), a baby dress
(now hanging in the bedroom on an old fashioned baby hanger). The dress could easily belong to my great grandfather who was born during a voyage on his father's ship, around about the time the highboy was made.Katie

I think I posted these a long time ago on the "old" Glass Board. They were in an 1880s highboy that has been in my family since the 1880s.
I know one is a watch fob. And one is a sort of buckle. I believe they are gold. However they are unmarked.
